Year 7 Special Entry Exams Registration Information for 2023
Refer to the important information below regarding registering your child for the ACER® Scholarship Tests, Ignite Entry Exam and STEM Entry exams in 2023 in South Australia. It is parents’ responsibility to register their son/daughter for the desired scholarship test and/or the Ignite entry program.
The ACER® Scholarship Test is mainly for private/independent/catholic school entry and it is an opportunity for students to receive an academic scholarship for respective schools. Visit HERE for more information.
The Ignite Entry Assessment is offered in 3 schools in Adelaide, namely Glenunga International High School (GIHS), The Heights School, and Aberfoyle Park High School. Ignite entry test is an opportunity for students to enter the Ignite program, which is a special program designed to accelerate and extend gifted students. The STEM Pathways Program is offered at Adelaide Botanic High School (ABHS). Generally there are up to 20 positions per year available for enrolment at ABHS through the out-of-zone selective entry process. These positions are available to students who reside outside of the school zone and who show a high-level interest and success in one or more of the STEM areas. Visit HERE for more information.
Special Interest STEM Program is offered at Norwood International High School. The aim of this STEM program is to push curious minds to investigate Science, Mathematics, and Technology and learn to think critically, imagine creatively, and be ready for the jobs of the future. The program has a focus on students using critical thinking and inquiry skills to find their solutions to real-world problems whilst integrating with industry leaders.Visit HERE for more information.

3. Before completing a registration for a school (ACER® related), please check the following:
3.1. Check the respective school website to ensure your child is eligible, and the school is offering a scholarship at your child’s level.
3.2. Also check whether the school requires any additional documentation from you to complete your application, ensuring you submit these by the due date. Contact the school directly for any queries regarding this.
3.3. Check that the school is not using the cooperative test and if you select more than one school, ensure that they are not testing on the same day. If it’s the same testing day, you can only choose one school to register and sit for the test.
3.4. Check the registration closing date for schools you wish to apply for and ensure you complete your application before the due date. Late applications will not be accepted.

ACER® Scholarship and Ignite Entry Exam – Summary

The ACER® Scholarship Tests consist of a series of academic ability tests used to select students for the award of a scholarship. Independent schools around Australia choose a testing date which best suits their school needs.
The Ignite program is offered in 3 schools in South Australia including Glenunga International High School. Ignite program focuses on Gifted and Talented students by offering accelerated learning programs from year 7 onwards.
All three participating schools use the ACER HAST exam as the first part of the selection process.
We will be targeting “Secondary Level – 1”- For students entering Year 7 in two years time. Therefore, we will be opening opportunities for students currently in school year 5. Generally, tests are held in February each year; hence, it is anticipated that the next test will be held in February for a school entrance in two years time.
- Our focus is on enhancing our students’ core abilities in Maths, Creative and Persuasive Writing, and Humanities which are essential for this ACER® Scholarship test.
- We teach, train and mentor our students in “study techniques”, “exam techniques”, “time management skills” and work extensively to improve their “exam finishing skills”.
- We teach techniques to improve students confident in their abilities, and have the skill to work under-pressure during exam conditions to a greater degree therefore improving our students’ results.
- We follow a structured approach that teaches and challenges students in various aspects which trains our students in the best possible way.
- Every week, we give exercises and practice tests followed by regular homework to reinforce learning.

Based on the results we have been informed, overall there were 35 successful offers
- Ignite: 19 Offers so far – 2 students are in Top 25 out of 709 students who sat for the Ignite entrance exam at Glenunga International High School.
- ACER®: 8 Offers in renown schools. (Pembroke School, Saint Ignatius’ College, St John’s Grammar School, Christian Brothers College)
- Other (STEM & STEM Pathways): 8 offers.

Based on results we have been informed, overall there are 54 successful offers.
- Ignite: 38 Offers – 6 students ranked Top 25. One student ranked 6th overall and 2nd place in abstract reasoning.
- ACER®: 10 Offers in renown schools.

1 – 60% scholarship (Pembroke School)

Based on the results we have been informed, overall there were 26 successful offers.
- Ignite: 14 Offers – 3 students are in the Top 25 out of 570 students who sat for the Ignite entrance exam at Glenunga International High School.
- ACER®: 12 Offers in renowned schools (St Peter’s College, St Peter’s Girls’ School, Walford Anglican School for Girls, Rostrevor College).
- Other (ALEAP, STEM): Exams were cancelled due to COVID-19 in 2020. Several students have received interviews during the selection process.
Exceptional Achievements in 2019
Based on the results we have been informed, overall there were 24 successful offers.
- Ignite (Round 1 offers): 11 Offers – In which 4 out of 11 students were in the Top 25 out of 522 students who sat for the Ignite entrance exam. In addition, one outstanding student ranked 2nd in English out of the total participants who sat for the exam.
- ACER®: 9 Offers in renowned schools.

Exceptional Achievements in 2018
Overall 37 students were offered ACER® scholarships or passed Ignite entry exam and other similar entry exams.
- Ignite: 20 students were successful in Ignite exam, which is an outstanding achievement for Tutors SA (Outstanding 60% Success Rate).
- ACER®: 10 scholarships were offered to our students from some of the prestigious schools in Adelaide (Such as Prince Alfred College, St Peter’s Girls’ School, St Peter’s College, Immanuel College, Seymour College).
- Other: 7 students succeeded (Adelaide High ALEAP, Adelaide Botanic High School – STEM, Norwood Morialta High – Accelerated STEM Program, Brighton High School – Think Bright Program).

What is the Ignite Program?
The Ignite program Practice Test focuses on Gifted and Talented students by offering accelerated learning programs from year 8 onwards. Students are selected for entry into the Ignite training program based on their results in an ACER® assessment, commonly referred to as the Ignite test.
- The test comprises Reading Comprehension, Written Literacy, Mathematics and Abstract Reasoning.
- The Ignite program is offered in 3 schools in South Australia, including Glenunga International High School.
We prepare students for all 4 separate tests within the Ignite exam, namely:
- Test 1: Reading comprehension (45 minutes)
- Test 2: Written expression (30 minutes)
- Test 3: Mathematical reasoning (40 minutes)
- Test 4: Abstract reasoning (40 minutes)
What is the ACER® Program?
The ACER® Scholarship Tests consist of a series of academic ability tests used to select students for the award of a scholarship. Independent schools around Australia choose a testing date which best suits their school needs.
We prepare students for all 4 separate tests within the ACER® exam, namely:
- Test 1: Written Expression (extended response, 25 minutes)
- Test 2: Humanities – Comprehension and Interpretation (multiple choice, 40 minutes)
- Test 3: Mathematics (multiple choice, 40 minutes)
- Test 4: Written Expression (extended response, 25 minutes)
