Introduction to Robotics & Coding

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Robotics Courses Adelaide
This course will introduce students to robotics and coding (Phase 1) and extend preliminary concepts into an advanced setting Intermediate, Advanced and Pro versions.
Designed by experts within the disciplines of engineering, mathematics and education, this course addresses the Australian Curriculum on Digital Technologies, aligned with the National STEM School Education Strategy, to develop mathematical and technological literacy. More specifically, the latest future industry technologies and platforms have been implemented in the course content, ensuring absolute relevance and applicability to today’s technologically-dominated world. Additionally, learning modules and assessments throughout the course promote the development of 21st century transferable skills of problem solving, critical analysis and creative thinking; necessary skills for lifelong learning.
The students will experience an engaging and hands-on approach to robotics and coding utilising an educational STEM robot kits and coding programs to:
1. Understand the basic concepts of computing, including algorithms, sequences, loops, conditionals and variables;
2. Develop and implement fundamental mathematics, logical reasoning and algorithms;
3. Recognise the latest technology based concepts including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT); and
4. Learn how to assemble electronic hardware.
Drawing upon new and prior knowledge, students will integrate concepts and techniques, prompted by questions and cues, to predict certain scenario-based outcomes. Content delivery and application will be adapted towards different age groups from school years 3-12 (beginner, intermediate, advanced and pro levels). All lessons are conducted by qualified and experienced professionals within relevant leading Australian industries, thus providing a real life approach to robotics and coding.
More broadly, this course will foster and nurture students’ curiosity towards STEM, ensuring the development of deeper engagement and learning.
Introduction to Robotics & Coding – Phase 1 (Beginner)
Ideal for beginners, the course is aimed at introducing students to programming through block-based programming, teaching them to think programming. Students learn the key concepts of robotics with the necessary theoretical understanding combined with practical hands-on experience in coding using Scratch 3.0 block-based programming software. The course leverages an understanding of ‘why’ to enable students to later think about real-world problem solving. The course serves as a foundation for students to excel further and advance their understanding in next Phases.
Introduction to Robotics & Coding – Phase 2 (Intermediate)
Phase 2 allows students to continue to advance in their understanding. This course enables students to interact with educational STEM robots named mBot. From assembling robots to developing code to make use of various sensors of mBot, and then further explore interaction between robots are some of the key takeaways of this course. Hands-on projects in this phase include:
- Obstacle avoidance robot
- Line follower robot
- Sensor control using hardware programming
Introduction to Robotics & Coding – Phase 3 (Advanced)
Taking one step further, students learn advanced programming concepts bassed on scratch 3.0. The course further expands to highly relevant programming languages such as Python and Arduino. Students will gain knowledge in sensor-controlled software development and further advanced programming concepts associated with programming multiple sensors. The Phase 2 (Advanced) directly feeds in Phase 4 (Pro) version of our course, nurturing curiosity and preparing students to learn, experiment and excel further.
Introduction to Robotics & Coding – Phase 4 (Pro)
The Phase 4 (Pro) version empowers students with advanced robotics concepts, where students work on highly capable 3-in-1 STEM robot m-Bot ranger – an advanced version of mBot. mBot Ranger is based on highly configurable and powerful microcontroller, Arduino Mega 2560. In this Phase of Robotics and Coding course, students will implement robotics on several exciting applications, including:
- Self-balancing robot
- Solar-powered ranger
- Interstellar voyage
- Light controlled autonomous robot and more.
