Joel Chang
SACE & Mathematics Tutor
First-Class Honours in Mathematics, National University of Singapore
Joel is an accomplished Mathematics tutor with extensive teaching experience across secondary, pre-university, and undergraduate levels. He holds a First-Class Honours degree in Mathematics from the National University of Singapore, graduating with the highest distinction in his cohort. Before relocating to Adelaide, Joel lectured in Engineering Mathematics at Temasek Polytechnic and worked as a Teaching Assistant at the National University of Singapore.
Joel’s teaching philosophy focuses on genuine understanding rather than memorisation. He helps students understand the “why” behind mathematical methods, breaking down challenging concepts into clear and manageable steps. His patient and structured approach enables students to strengthen their reasoning, problem-solving skills, and confidence in Mathematics.
A particular strength of Joel’s teaching is supporting students who may lack confidence or believe they are simply “not a maths person.” By identifying gaps in understanding and adapting his explanations to each student, Joel helps learners rebuild their mathematical foundations and develop greater trust in their own reasoning.
Joel particularly enjoys teaching senior secondary Mathematics and supporting students with their SACE preparation, where mathematical learning progresses from procedural skills to deeper analytical thinking. Whether a student is developing foundational skills or aiming for outstanding results, Joel provides personalised guidance that helps make Mathematics more accessible, meaningful, and rewarding.
Through his deep subject knowledge and supportive teaching style, Joel empowers students to approach Mathematics with greater confidence, independence, and a genuine understanding of the subject.
